Composer Jeffrey Hepker has written music for film, television, theatrical trailers, other forms of new media, the stage, and the concert hall. He owns two music degrees (University of Illinois ’97, Berklee College of Music ’00), and he currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He has successfully recorded music in many genres and styles, but excels most on projects which would require a score containing subtlety, quirkiness, warmth, or introspection.
ABOUT
DIRECTOR'S FEEDBACK
“I attempt to bring an intelligent and thoughtful approach to each project, an approach that invests heavily in the collaborative process. I always look for unique ways to spot the music, because I strongly feel that how the music is used is sometimes more important than what it is.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Music is an enormous part of any production, and the composer, Jeffrey Hepker, was up to the task. He provided 50 minutes of very eclectic material, ranging from Panamanian beats to Classical numbers" - Oscar winning producer Jim Wilson, commenting on the score to his independent feature Laffit: All About Winning
"You know how the Terminator was sent back in time with one mission? That's what it was like working with these guys (Hepker and music supervisor Marc Jackson). They had a job to do and they let nothing stand in their way. I threw a lot of things at these guys, changes, tweaks, requests, and they met all of them. They rock!" - Dane Cook, on the Tourgasm score
OTHER
Jeffrey has been involved in many other musical ventures outside of the production / entertainment industry. In 2010 he was awarded a Berklee Alumni Grant for his volunteer work with Hollywood Arts, a program dedicated to providing free music instruction, and other arts curriculum, to homeless and at-risk young adults. He maintains an unhealthy obsession with choral music (writing, conducting, listening). He has served as the musical director for Second City LA, where over the course of his four year stay he improvised live underscore and wrote comedic songs for over fifty shows. He also wrote the musical Statuette, (book and lyrics by Dave Stinton), which enjoyed an extended run at the WNEP theater in Chicago. He was a big time a cappella nerd in college, where his arrangements, compositions, and direction won many awards through the National Championship of A Cappella (now the ICCA). He'll probably end up being a professor of music as he grows older, because he already wears a lot of cardigan sweaters.
